Day Off - [no weather report] Up late - eat - Brian arrives. That's it. My tour diaries end here with a rather abrupt stop. I remember deciding that I'd just experience the touring as it happened and not bother to write anything down. I also ended up not carrying a camera much of the time. Day Off - [no weather report] Up at 10. Brian and I go to the percussion house and pick up a flexitone etc. Dave B., Brian and I go to the studio to do bass over-dubs etc. We finish over-dubs and added touches. Kathy adds violin and Brian adds lap steel on "Scotty". Female voices on "Dance Hit". Finish recording the album in four days. To bed at 5AM. What's a Flexitone you ask?... more »»

Day Off - [no weather report] My mom's birthday. She did like those earings I bought her in San Francisco. We're up later and go to the studio at 2 to begin recording over-dubs etc. Dan and I program a drum machine and Dave writes a bass line and Rod's "Dance Hit" is born - very funny. Lee sampled his voice - "Art Fag", distorted guitar feedback - dance chart bound! We work until 5AM. Home to bed.... more »»

Day Off - [no weather report] Up early - 9:30. We get ourselves together. Brian shows up at 10 and we load the van - drums, six guitars and a lap steel, two bass amps, five or six guitar amps etc. All pile in - Lee remains to pick up Dave R. who is supposed to be arriving by plane at 11AM. Day Off - [no weather report] Up and about. We rehearse in the afternoon and go over all the songs. Eat -then in the evening Brian and we go over particular songs and everything looks good for us to start recording tomorrow. We talk much afterwards. He has a much different approach to recording than a lot of people - especially John Wicks. We'll cut mostly live and even try to save some of Rod's "scratch" vocal tracks.... more »»

Day Off - Cool/Cloudy Up at 12. We set up all our gear in the house to rehearse. Brian Arrives and we play. He has good ideas and it goes well. Brian then goes to work. We eat and then go over material we didn't get to do earlier. Hang out at the house then to bed. We're of course rehearsing the material that ended up on Bucky Fellini.... more »»

Day Off - Fall Weather/Cloudy Cool Joe, Dan, Lee and I get up and go to the university area to eat and look in the shops. We eat at a bar and grill then park and walk. Day Off - Sunny/Cool Up at noon after a dream about making coffee. I make coffee, sit and smoke. Drink java and read - a great morning ritual. Others rise and we leave late for eats - "Mama's Kitchen" again. We pick up the film - look at Lee and Dan's pictures - some good ones. Back to the house. Dave calls his sister in San Antonio. Show Day - Sunny/Warm Up at 1PM. I hang out and shower last. Eventually we go to "Mama's Kitchen" for breakfast at 3PM. Then to photo place and buy coffee for tomorrow morning. We go back to the Glass Eye house and rehearse for fun with the Glass Eye equipment. Then to the club for a sound check at 7PM. Good club and sound. Day Off - Sunny/Cool Up at 10:30. We pack up and eat. I drive the first leg - I'm sick but want to get to Austin and I drive first thinking that I won't feel like it later. I drive for 4 hours or so. Day Off - Sunny/Warm Rabbit, Rabbit! up and out. Go to the "Day and Night Teller" for money then to drugstore. My right eye hurts. I think I should change my saline solution and enzyme my lenses. I haven't done that since we left. I'm so irresponsible. I know its in my best interest to wear contact lenses - my eyesight is really bad and its impossible to play shows with glasses - they steam up and slide... more »»
