Up at 9:30. Shower and pack up. Grab a quick breakfast at McDonald's then drive to Phoenix. I sleep for 3 hours in the van. Arrive at the "Jar Club" at 6:30 - 7PM. We load in and have an easy sound check. Rod had gone with promoter to do a radio interview. Joe, Dave and I did "Scotty" and "Rocketship". Good sound (anything would be better than last night). We hang out. The opening band is a Techno-pop band. Loads of electronic gear - stupid. We wait for Rodney and talk to people. We meet Peter - Todd Miller's roommate. He's on tour (with himself). He's a photographer - used to shoot for "Spin". Rod returns and we go across the street and eat a good sub.
I think the "Jar" club we played is the still open "Mason Jar".
Back to the club at 10 or so. We avoid most of 'Terminally Strange'. Nobody is here (about 10 people). Apparently there was little promo and the place usually isn't open on Sundays. We decide to do a mega set considering it's technically the last show of the tour. 40 songs. We'll see if the crowd wants a break in the middle 20 songs in. We play and have a lot of fun. Crowd wants us to keep playing. We do a 10 minute intro to 'Bitchin' and the show is about 2 hours long. Loads of fun and the people that stayed - about 10, had a blast. Sold 5 T-Shirts. Talked, packed up and out by 1:30. to the "Kontiki Hotel". Check in and crash at 3AM. We have 3 days to get to Austin - our home for 3 weeks - see you tomorrow!
Too bad - I can't seem to find Internet info on the "Kontiki" hotel. It was authentically tacky and we heard many a band had stayed there.

has a photo and vintage ad of the Phoenix Kon Tiki Motel on page 118. It was torn down in 1997. What a sad waste of wild architecture.
