Woke at 11 or so and got showered. Joined the others on the roof/porch for breakfast. Pictures were taken and we were joined on the roof by "Tex" the kitten. After breakfast I walked with Gina to Haight street to look for earings for my mom's birthday on December 12th. We walked to the post office first. After shopping we had coffee at a cafe and were joined by Lee and Joe. Dave, Dan and Rod could be seen wandering down the street. We all met back at Hotel Hell to pack up and say goodbye - we might return later this week.
I think we all loved San Francisco. Barbara and Gina (and Barbara's sister Terry) were very nice to let us crash at the "Hotel". Here's me atop the front porch of the house. Click for a shot of us (Lee, Dave, Rod and me) on the roof at breakfast time [popup]. Here is a shot of Dave with Barbara Manning.
Drive to Sacramento and arrive at club "Can't Tell" at 4:30. No one is around so we wander around. We get into the club at 5:30 - its an old movie theater - great stage. We wait for 'Camper Van Beethoven' to load in and check. They arrive at 6:00 or so. Nice guys in Camper Van. They check - no check for us or the two opening bands - 'Cactus Liquors' and 'The Sea Hags'. Both the drummer and bass player for the 'Cactus Liquors' were in 'Tales of Terror' - a great band we played with at "The Underground" back home a long time ago. They set up and the crowd comes in at 8. Lee sets up T-Shirts - we got a ton shipped to us - we sell a bunch. 'Cactus Liquors' play good. 'Sea Hags' play good - 500 people in the club. We play a good show - OK sound despite no check - very powerful drum monitor - my kit sounds very good to me. Play 2 encores - crowd loves the show. We watch the 'Campers' - they play well. Hang out, pack up - 2AM - leave and check into a hotel and eat. Turn in at 4AM.
The very cool (and very lo-tech) "City of a Beer: Sacramento Inbred Band Project" website provides some info on Tales of Terror and the Cactus Liquors. VH1 of all places filled me in on the details of the Sea Hags. Good old Trouser Press has a nice write up on the Campers. You can also check out their own low tech site (keep hitting the browser refresh button to see new info on the home page).
