Show Day - Crisp/Cold

Up at 10. I got up and made coffee and sat with Dave R. and Mike M. (Mike had gone to bed before we got in last night). Various people get up and do the shower thing. Eat and more talking. We watch our video and the 'Mats' on SNL. We go and do laundry - hang out. Back to house and pack up and write. Say goodbye and drive to Milwaukee at 5:30. We're opening for Tommy Keene.

Video would be for "The Thing That Only Eats Hippies". Opening for Tommy Keene was a little bit weird - I was a fan, but his very polished pop is very different from the Milkmen. His bass player at one time (not sure if he was on this tour) was Ted Nicely, who we tapped to produce "Soul Rotation". We chose Ted not based on his Tommy Keene work but on his production work for Fugazi. Ted is now a pastry/dessert chef and sometime producer for Girls Against Boys.

We arrive at 7:30 and see the last of their check. We say hello - nice guys. Load in and check - long - bass drum has a ring in it for some reason. At 9:30 they let people in. Others eat - I drink beer in the dressing room. We go on at 10:15 or so. Play well - the stage sound was great. Crowd was OK. We had people in to see us. I think if the show was advertised as us, there would have been more people. Hang out and sell 17 shirts. Tommy went on at 12. Played OK. Dave B. and I watched him - he rocks harder live than on record. We pack up and leave. Drive to hotel and sleep at 3AM.
