Show Day - Sunny/Fair

Up at 11:30 - wash up and walk across the parking lot to the "Kettle" restaurant. We've eaten a lot at the "Kettle". Back to the room to pick up laundry - then to the mall and laundromat. I pick up toiletry supplies and some nifty Halloween cards - I thought it might be funny to send cards to friends - one doesn't usually get Halloween cards past 12 years old. Lee and I also went together on a wedding card for Steve and Kathy - they were married Saturday.

Wow - Lee and I are big spenders on our friend's wedding! (actually - I think we did get them something else).

After laundry - a quick run into Zayre's - a K-Mart type store. I buy a "Walkman" - simple play only model for $32.95. I'll be able to listen to tapes anytime I want and can get away from the outside world in a way. Back to the room to write some cards and listen to my new "Walkman".

Just think - portable CD players were just coming out in 1986. We all had lots of music on cassettes back then.

To the "Varsity Club" at 5:30 - load in about 5:45. Fairly big place - tile floor (more on that later). We set up - sound guy is slow - check sound around 7 or so - takes until 8. Stopped to try to get a hum out of the system. Apparently he fucks with the system all the time and pisses everybody off. We finish and go and eat in a shitty bar/burger type joint. I get pissed at the waitress and go to the van and finish other cards. Mail in an actual box - haven't seen one in weeks (Tom was taking our mail into the record store).

Well I never seemed to explain the club floor further in the diary - so: The tile floor was used by the crowd as a trash can for empty bottles. They'd just drop them when they were finished, and at the end of the night the staff would sweep up the broken glass and hose the whole thing down.

I get to the club and make set lists. I had a hard time remembering the songs - it's been a long time since we played a gig! I hang out and help Lee set up T-Shirts. Drink beers and talk to a few people. 'Club Wig' opens show - OK band - not much to talk about, but not offensive. We go on about 12:15. I didn't have to set my kit up - the Club Wig drummer set up in front. We play an OK show. I was on edge the whole show - my Hi-Hat was not in its best position and my hands were sweating like mad. I almost lost a stick several times and we hadn't done this in a while - I was a bit rusty. The monitor mix wasn't too bad though. The set just never seemed to have any spark. After show - pack up and hang out. Leave to our room and catch the last half of "Body Double". I'd like to see the whole thing - it looks very good. To bed about 4AM. Up at 10AM tomorrow - play in Atlanta.

Here's the lowdown on Body Double. I'm not really a huge fan of De Palma though.
