Rise at 10-10:30. Pack up and get "de-smelled" in the usual slow fashion. Pack van and go to "Bob Evans" - packed. We drive on - take Route 70 East and find another B/E down the road anyway's. Eat. I sleep in the van and wake up in Washington PA. Arrive in Morgantown about 6PM. Load in and set up and sound check. OK but not great sound. The "Underground Railroad" is run by Marsha - a middle aged woman who everybody wishes were their mom. She is one in a million. The nicest, coolest lady around. All the kids in Morgantown love her.
I've mentioned the Underground before. The 123 Pleasant Street site has a history of the place including a link to an article about the mysterious dissapearence of Marsha.
Right next to the URR - connected to it, is a place called "The Dry House" - open for all ages - no alcohol and it's also a restaurant bar and grill type food place for the bar next door. We go and eat in the same Italian restaurant we've been before - then to radio station. Stupid interview by some stupid DJ.
Geez - I pretty harsh on the DJ and don't even say why.
Back to the club - I set up shirts and Rod and I have a few beers. I stop but Rod buys a Texas non-alcoholic beer and adds a shot of Wild Turkey - he dubs it the "Bloody Rodney" - I taste it - it's awful. The "Larry's" open as usual - OK band. They play a long set. Not too crowded by 11:30 though it's a little better. Marsha wants 'em to do another short set - half hour or so...they play for 15 minutes a little later on.
I don't think the "Bloody Rodney" caught on. Marsha sounds a little bossy here!
We go on about 12:45. Play well - the stage sound is better - crowd enjoys it OK - not a wild response - no encore. Hang out and eat a shitty turkey sandwich next door. Pack up and stay at Andrew's apartment (a guy Joe met - friends with Jeff H.) We drive there and load in - nice apartment. Rodney sacks out - he's very irritable. Dave R. writes letter to Paula and I scribble this. Only one more show tomorrow at Penn State and then to Philadelphia for a few days of rest and relaxation and gear up for the "long haul" as I have been calling the second wave of our tour. October 4th - Washington DC then South to Florida - North to Minneapolis - West to Seattle - South to LA and East to Austin Texas where we should be by December 10th to record our 3rd album with Brian Beattie as producer. I finish this section off tomorrow.
I'm getting tired just reading the upcomming tour route!
