Show Day - Hot

Awake at 2 in the afternoon. the Air conditioning is not working and the room is like a sweat box. We shower and watch a shitty movie about a women factory football team from Oklahoma [?!?] HA! HA! Dave R. calls desk - we get to switch to room next door - we make the switch. Dave R. makes calls and we go to eat about 4PM.

Anyone know what movie I'm talking about?

Back at 5 - we leave for sound check at Stashe's. Dave R. stays to make calls. Joe and I took dirty laundry. Get to club - load in and set up and sound check - OK sound check. Joe and I stay while Dan, Dave B. and Rod go back to hotel (They picked up a load of T-Shirts at School Kids Records on the way). Joe and I do laundry and play pinball - free games. The machine was busted and I played about 6 games on one quarter. Wash and dry and back to club about 8:30.

We all played a lot of pin ball on the road. We were into the old school pin ball games more than the newer video games.

Hang out and set up T-Shirts. Club is starting to fill up. I sell about half a dozen before the show. Place is getting filled now. Dan sells shirts and I go to laundry (they're back now). I ask Dave R. for paper - none. Back to club and out to van for paper and to make set lists up. First band is on now - from Cincinnati. I don't even know their name. OK - not great. They end with a great cover of "Horse With No Name".

I can't believe I didn't even bother to learn the opening band's name!

We set up. The place is jammed now - it took us 4 times to pack the place here in Columbus. We play a good set. Some guys from Detroit came down because they got the Newzletter yesterday. All the way from Detroit. Good response. We encore with a good "Fez" for a change. Hang out and talk to a few people. Sell a few more shirts. Pack up and I manage to get a "Dung Bag" from the convenience store next to the club. We drive back out of town to the hotel and end up getting take out from Burger King. Back to room and watch "Secret Admirer" - stupid teen movie. Dave R. guesses ending. We claim he's seen it before. To bed at 3:30AM. Morgantown West Virginia tomorrow.

Dung Bags are explained here. Free HBO in motels means you'll watch any bad movie...because it's free. "Secret Admirer" was released in 1985 and was already being endlessly run on HBO.

Could that movie have been "The Oklahoma City Dolls"? It was a TV movie from 1981 about factory-worker women who form a football team.

This show will forever live in my memory . My first DM show . Steve and I borrowed a friends new Chevy s-10 and left Detroit about 2:00 pm for columbus . When we pulled up in front of the bar , we could hear the guys doing soundcheck . We went in and got our first glimpse of our favorite band. They did right wing pidgeon for the 2 of us . Detroit reference . Couldn't get any better than that ? It does .
No big lizzard shirts yet . I think they were selling Beastie Boys and White Castle tee shirts .
More later if anyone wants it
