Show Day - Cloudy/Warm

Up and out of the Shanghai Inn by 12:10 - we paid 40 cents for the overtime! Drive to Youngstown Ohio for a show at Cedars Lounge. Arrive in town and drive around - ugly town. Dave R. makes some calls - the radio station in Sharon PA has changed formats so no interview. We call the club and get directions. Go to "NY Music Store" and buy drum sticks - "Pro-Mark" 2B's - $3.90 a pair - I buy 8 pair. We drive around and end up eating at "Sisters" - a fast food chain. We are youngsters here - everybody else is old. After dinner we go to the club.

Cedars Lounge website.

Load in - OK place. Sound guy had waited for us but left - will be back. I buy a "Rolling Rock" for a buck and Dave R. and I play 500 Gin. I win. Dan and I set up gear. More beer - cards. Sound dude finally arrives and we check. Shitty sound on stage but apparently its OK out front - we'll deal.

People have started to arrive - it's 9PM when check is done. We hang out. I talk to a few people - everybody is pretty friendly. We decide to do two sets. We'll play a short set of songs we don't do live very often, covers and new tunes. Then the second set will be our regular one hour show.

We go on at 11 as "The Space Potatoes" from Bennington VT. Half hour sloppy but fun set. More beer and cards. I hang out some more with folks in the bar. 150 people or so. We go out again at 12:15. Play fairly well - good show. Some crowd response - encore. More beer - cool people - pay is shit. We get food from restaurant next door. Load up at 3AM. We decide to drive to Columbus and check into a motel - Dave R. needs to "play office" tomorrow. Dave R. drives. Arrive at 6AM. It was a rough trip - rain etc. Check into the Budget Inn - small room - crash.

There's a trivia question for you - "What band name did the Milkmen use in Youngstown OH when opening for themselves in 1986?"

I don't know the answer to your trivia, but If I could take one trip in a time machine it would be to this show!

I grew up in Youngstown, and spent a good 10 years of my life going to Cedars, i still go there when I am in town!!!

RIP DAVE BLOOD!

I used to work at The Continental Club in the 1980's then Liberty Lunch in Austin, TX, until it's close in August of 1999 and y'all were one of my favorite bands to work with. You guys were real low maintenance. Your tour manager was also one of my favorites.

My condolences on the loss of Dave.

Uhhh, wait I was confusing the Circle Jerks TM with yours. I'm getting older every day. I'm not sure I remember your TM very well. What was his name?

Unless you TM was a Christian guy who wore a baseball cap all the time then that was him. He also did sound. Ok, I'll stop now.

Our tour manager was Dan Mapp. He also did sound for us. He's still a tour manager, for various other bands. He's really cool - but he's not the baseball cap wearing Christian guy.
