Show Day - Sunny/Cool

Up at 9 or so. I'm first - got cleaned up and made tea. Others slowly rise - we pack our bags. Beth rises last. She was up with us all until 4AM and trading one liners with Rod (he was getting shitfaced on wine and vodka). I think she had a great time with us hanging out. We load up the van and leave at 11:30 - drive north to Burlington Vermont. Dan drives until we stop to eat at this shitty steak and seafood place - the only place we could find. Lots of "suits" and shitheads - food was awful - waitress was the pits. I drove for two hours then Dan the rest to Burlington.

Truth is that probably most of us were getting shitfaced...

Arrive at "Border" [club name] about 5:30. 'Screaming Broccoli' are setting up sound system. We unload and check - OK sound. We then go to eat at a pasta restaurant - good food - I had spaghetti with a tomato sauce, bread and a bowl of minestrone soup. Back to club. Broc play - good band. 7-10 all ages show. We play to a very enthusiastic crowd - good show. Break down and the 'Broccoli' set up for the bar show.

Here's a short history of the music scene in Burlington VT. Too bad the 'Broc aren't around anymore and these fella's swiped the name.

It gets very crowded and 'Broc play an even better show than the great set they did earlier. Set change and we play another good show. Very good crowd. Todd the owner was very pleased. We made $850 plus $180 on T-shirts - our highest grossing show so far.

I haven't mentioned gig money much on these last two tours but we are definitely making enough to keep us afloat on the road now. We would occasionally play two shows a day where the promoter would be able to do an all ages show and a bar show.

Pack up and go to Ho-Jo's with Joe the drummer from the 'Broc and the girls we are staying with - 12 of us in all! Eat then back to the apartment. Nice place - to bed about 3:30. I'm tired - only 2 and a half months of this to go - I'm still having fun. To Albany and the "288" club tomorrow.

This show was the first and only time I saw The Dead Milkmen. At the time I was a hardcore/punk DJ at Castleton State College in Vermont (native Vermonter that I am).The show was amazing! I remember being there with Mike Smith, who was also a DJ. We were standing with one foot on the stage, mouthing the words to the songs, when Rodney Anon stepped back from a mike and let us jump up on stage and sing along!! Way cool!!!!The Screaming Brocolli were good friends of mine,so Steve, the bassist invited me backstage to meet the band. You guys were great and even let me take a few shots (which I still have if you'd like for the site). I didn't have my usual recorder with me to do an interview,so I was given a telephone # to call. The next week on my show,I called the number and was able to do a live interview with Joe!! Needless to say,my listeners were thrilled!!! Thanks for all the good memories!!!!
