Up at 10 or so. Out at noon. Eat and drive to Cincinnati. Do laundry, mail stuff and go to club about 5 or so. Dave R. stays to make calls - us 4 go with Dan from the McGonigal Maniacs to radio interview - cool car with lots of stickers, air horn etc. Long Drive. 15 minute interview then back to club at 7:30.
I forget who the "McGonigal Maniacs" were - a punk band? Beuller, anyone? Help!
Quick sound check. Eat at "Perkins". 4 girls come in and have us sign a magazine while we eat. They had trouble getting in - thought it was an all-ages show. (Dave R. gets their money back etc.)
Here's the very "low-tech" Perkins website!
Back to "Bogart's". Bill Leist - the promoter at the Jockey Club - his band opened - cover material. We go on - 300 people - great stage sound - good show. Pack up, beer, to the promoter's house to bed. We hang out and listen to records. Cool apartment - the upper floor of an 1840 river house - supposedly haunted. Newly renovated - really cool. Loft bedroom, carpet, skylights, beams. To bed 3:30.
Bogart's is still going strong. We played there many times. The stage is huge and about ten feet off the ground. That's a serious stage dive! Here's the entry from our first tour where we played the Jockey Club.
Posted by Dean at March 4, 1986 10:22 PMBack when I was in high school, we didn't have fun like you kids today. According to these ticket stubs at http://users.3z.net/~elandis/dmtix/, my first show was in 1987. Maybe I was just a small fan when you rolled through in 1986 and I was a HS senior. Wow, the first ticket was $3.91. Bogarts is a good place, but I'd place the stage at 20 ft instead of 10. :)
