Up at 8AM - load up - drive to San Francisco. Arrive at 6PM or so. VIS Club. Other bands arrive - club isn't open yet. We meet up with Christian from Philly - he's just moved to S.F. Club opens - load in. Sound man doesn't show up until 8:30. Quick check - hang out. First band is on at 10:30 or so. We ate at a cool BBQ joint across the street - pork ribs - good food.
Christian was a Philadelphia scenster who was involved with setting up some of the all ages hard core punk shows we played. Here's an article mentioning the VIS club in San Francisco in 1986.
Back to club. 'Glorious Din' - 1st band. Moody stuff. Eric the singer would like to interview us for his mag - "Wiring Dept." Second band 'Faith No More' - OK. Drummer is boring. Music is boring - but the large crowd loves them.
Here's our first encounter with 'Faith No More'. This version featured singer Chuck Mosely. A few years laterwe played a show in Los Angeles with them [when?] - I even think they opened for us again. Mike Patton was the singer by this time. Somewhere in those years we played a show with Mike Patton's 'Mr. Bungle' up in Guerneville, CA. I remember liking them more than 'Faith No More'. I have to laugh now at my comment regarding the drummer because more than once back then people used to tell me I looked a bit like "the drummer from Faith No More." I had the long hair and similar facial features.
We go on about 12:15 or 12:30. Play an OK if not good set. I had fun. It was a sort of "Fuck it - lets not care if anything goes wrong" set. Crowd took us too seriously - lots left when Rod made a joke about not playing Bitchin'! Played until 1:45. Packed up. Left for hotel South of 'Frisco - out of town. To bed 3AM
Here's a tip - when in San Francisco, never refer to the town as 'Frisco'.
