Up and out - left at 10 - to Rockford IL. Drive, drive and more driving. Arrive at 7PM Cafe Zero. Paula - friend of Bill Calahan - Willpower - is putting the show on. Huge hall - boom-y sound but OK. Defoliants OK set up. We give them Dave's bass amp - Jeff will let us (me) use his snare - cool. They start playing - we go and eat at Paula's house - her roommate cooked it. Purple meat! Ate a little - was roast beef. Cool apartment - great food. Paula is the best hostess.
Bill Calahan put out the Replacements fanzine called 'Willpower'. Nice to be hanging out with our pals the Defoliants again.
Back to club - set up. Play 1 hour and 10 minutes. Set good. Back to Paula's at 12. Party. Met Katie - Paula's roomie, Mark - Stewart from the now defunct 'Icks' band. They put out a record on Fever! We didn't even know. Have to ask Colin about that. Also Paul and his girlfriend.
I'm a little sketchy on the party attendees, but I remember it was a good time.
Drank - watched the Mats on VHS - Saturday Night Live performances. Great. Lots of drunk people. Dave B., Joe and I stayed relatively sober - sorta. Dave R. and Rod were smashed. To bed at 3AM.
Paula was a huge Replacements fan. I was (still am) too.

Posted by: rudi at April 27, 2004 07:43 PMhmmm...that's a good one. Could be him. Then again I can't seem to see any reference of his connection to a zine 'bout the 'Mats'...
