August 23, 1985 - North Carolina

Day Off - Hot/Humid

Up at 11AM - late - we had told Lane Wurster we would be there in North Carolina at 7 or so. Now not until 10-11PM. Pack up, clean up, leave.

Lane is the older brother of "That Johnny Wurster kid". We was going to school in North Carolina. Lane went on to work at Mammoth Records.

It is at this point that the first tour diary comes to a screeching halt. There is a note scribbled under this entry that says: NORTH CAROLINA SHOWS CANCELED. After that there is a line mentioning going to Philly on Monday [August 26th, 1985] and then Tuesday August 27 in Columbus OH - $82 dollars - Staches. The final show was in Morgantown WV - $100 dollars - Underground Railroad. [For completeness sake, I'll enter these dates in the blog so the sidebar continues to count the show days versus off days.]

I remember being quite relieved to get home. I had a sense of "We did it, we made it across the country and back." It was great fun to see our friends again and I enjoyed a little of the attention we got as a result of our success. Ironically, as we returned home and September rolled around, students returned to colleges and the university radio stations began playing the Big Lizard album even more. Our music career and the touring adventures were really just beginning.

Stay tuned, I have two more tour diaries to post here. Things got a little better on the road as we got better at it.
