Woke at 7AM. We all shower and pack van - everybody else still asleep. Thanked waking people at 9AM as we left for Albuquerque. Stopped at Waffle House for breakfast. Dave called Jenny Dawson in Santa Fe - no show in Albuquerque - come to Santa Fe - show there tonight.
Waffle House quickly ended up on our "DO NOT EAT HERE" list.
Dave R. drives on route 10 East. Drive through Texas Canyon - very pretty. Stop at Stuckey's for gas and drinks. I take over and drive into New Mexico to route 26 North - short cut to route 25 North - very scenic. Pass the "Cafe In The Middle of Nowhere". Get on route 25. I give up the wheel to Dave Blood. Sleep - wake up and we get gas and stop at Mickey D's. I'm not feeling all that well - achy and feverish? - tired? - it might just be the heat. Take aspirin with my ice tea and rest in back of the van as Dave R. drives again about 2.5 hours out of Santa Fe.
Texas Canyon is really beautiful. Here's a nice shot to prove it. Whoohoo - Stuckey's for drinks! Here's the contact info for the Cafe In The Middle of Nowhere. Looks like they stay open for you if they know you're coming.
Arrive in Santa Fe at dark. Get to Jenny Dawson's house - she's not home - we wait around. She comes back - show cancelled - not again! We can stay and do laundry and eat until Wednesday. Dave R. is sick - has chills etc. Takes his temperature - 104 degrees! We rush him to the hospital for tests etc. Probably just a virus or flu. I'm not feeling that great either. Have to stay calm -rest and lots of liquids etc. Back to house -the Edge from Boston have arrived. We all talk - to sleep late - 1:30 - 2AM.
Here's a nice bio of the band The Edge.
Posted by Dean at August 12, 1985 11:23 PMi'm not surprised the show in santa fe got cancelled. i lived there for a long time and there's not much of a punk scene. just out of curiosity, do you remember the name of the place you were to play?
did you sample any of our famous new mexico green chile?
Posted by: jamie at January 13, 2004 09:10 AMYes! Waffle House is an abomination of gastronomic apocrypha.
Posted by: None at January 14, 2004 04:03 PMNope - sorry - I don't remember the venue or show we were to play. I imagine Jenny was promoting all ages shows where ever she could.
Can't say I've tried the Green Chili from those parts but maybe someday.
