Show Day - Hot/Sunny/Cloudy Late

Up at 8:30 in an effort to dry clothes and get to Des Moines by 6PM. Cleanup - pack up. Dave R. and I dry clothes. We still have to wash two loads - we'll do that in Des Moines. We are on our way by 10:30. Dave R. drives. We stop around 12:15 for food along Route 80. Nice truck stop - good food. Dave R. drives the rest of the way.

Has anybody else ever used the sentence "Nice truck stop - good food."???

Into Des Moines and find Bob Tyler's house - nice house. He and his friends are on the porch waiting. Told us they got a place to play at the last minute. A girls house in South West part of the city (We thought it was going to be a hall show - cops busted up the place). Needless to say it was not what we expected. But as long as we got paid...

The Iowa Underground Archive has all sorts of information on the Iowa music scene. From the site I see that Bob was a bass player in several bands over the years.

Hung around Bob's house for an hour. Fed us pizza and pop. Piled into van (met Joe Nelson [Buffalo]). Drove to house. Garage or basement. Basement was small and had a water bed - fun. Set up and waited for PA - set up PA and played 55 minute set. Good show - 30-40 people? Paid $70 plus 5-6 dollars in sticker sales.

The Basement Shows in Des Moines are apparently fondly remembered. See the link for pictures of Rodney and Joe at our show mentioned here. We're in the Mid West now - 'soda' is called 'pop'.

After we finished another band played show. Over about 1AM. Cops came but no hassles. Back to Bob's. Had Tacos. I slept in Van - to bed 2AM or so. Off to Kansas City tomorrow. Hall show?

I've eaten at that truck stop. They have the nicest showers, too. I know which one it is because there's only one worth stopping at in Iowa - we stopped there on the way to Omaha and back when I was a kid, and it was still there a few years ago when I drove back to Indy.
