July 16, 1985 - Chicago, IL

Day Off - Sunny/Cool/Breezy

Slept until 11AM. Woke up and lazed around and watched cartoons. Got cleaned up and ate Cheerios. More TV. Went to bank machine $10 dollars. Came back. Dave R. went to doctor - throat infection. Dinner at Byron's hot dogs - great dogs with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, relish, cucumbers, mustard, catsup etc.

Another day off in Chicago and the Dead Milkmen continue to eat their way across America. Geez - if anybody wanted to go on a cross-country trip, you could just follow our route to all the restaurants we ate at. Byron's has at least 4 locations in Chicagoland.

Back to Rob's. Wrote post cards, journal, etc. More TV. Dave R. made calls and confirmed shows etc. Talked shop with Defoliants. Friend Noel showed up. Beers - more talking - TV, etc. Did phone interview with guy in Cleveland - "Scum" - nice guy - loves our album. Talked to Jackie and Mike Morrison. Enigma has no more records! 2nd pressing already. Selling like "gang busters" on East coast. NBR in Boston's program director called our album 'Best Of the Year!' WOW! Fuckin' Awesome!

Hey - anybody named "Scum" who loves the DM is OK by me. Having the album go into second pressing was a mixed blessing really. Back then the record (on vinyl LP remember...) would have to be reordered from the manufacturing plant and could take a few weeks to get made. This means that what was out in the stores and radio station would have to hold us for the next few weeks of the tour. Today's CD plants make it easier to duplicate and manufacture new music stock much more quickly.

Talked and talked etc. To bed late, late, late. We're two weeks into the tour - so far so good. Having fun but still miss Philly - sort of...

Too many days off and you start to think you're not going anywhere. We certainly spent plenty of time here in Chicago (stay tuned there are 2 more days of doldrums...). The busier you are on tour, the less chance of getting home sick (or trashing house parties).
