Get up about 11:30. Rod slept in our van with the equipment - the rest of us inside. Jackie made pancakes and scrambled eggs for us all. She is one of the best people I (WE) know. She does so much for us and helps out anyway she can. Found out Colin's mother died Friday morning. We sent him a sympathy card. Found out our record is selling very well all over and they might re-press already!!. Everybody we know loves it and hopefully everybody we meet this summer will like our live shows too.
Jackie was Dave B's girlfriend at the time. She worked at the Daily Pennsylvanian newspaper on the Penn campus where she was also a student. We were moving to West Philadelphia at the end of the tour and would have many great times crashing parties on the campus. Colin was the founder of our record company. Fever Records started as an economics experiment back in Chicago by Colin while at the University of Chicago. He was now a professor at Penn. The Fever label had a few Chicago bands on it including the Effigies, The Bonemen of Barumba and Get Smart. I mention 're-press' here - remember that at this time our albums were released on cassette and LP vinyl only. It wasn't until a year or so later that the CD format was really widely available.
Unloaded van onto sidewalk. Repaired cooler - tested sink out. We'll use the drain feature but it's turned out to be too much of a hassle to use the water tank part of it. We packed the music gear and put in the futon for sleeping on. The whole arrangement will be fairly comfortable (maybe I won't say that at the end of this trip?).
No... I won't...
Joe went to South Philly to clear up his old apartment. Everybody else (and Joe later) went to a BBQ at Bernie from the More Fiends house. I met J at 5:30 and we went out to dinner and to the Tavern for drinks. Very drunk - back to Jackie's at 2AM.
The More Fiends are still playing gigs and Elizabeth has her own TeeVee show! The Tavern was a West Philly bar that I frequented at the time.
Posted by Dean at June 29, 1985 11:31 AM"Rod slept in our van with the equipment" is a very nice way of saying "Rodney got very, very drunk and slept UNDER the van."
