So, I called up Hollywood records for shits and giggles recently. Basically, this is how the conversation went:
HR: Hello, Hollywood Records, home of Queen, Queen, and also Queen. How may I help you?
me: Hey, I was interested as to how much you would need to fork over a band's catalog and masters to me?
HR: Is it Queen?
me: No.
HR: Has anyone from Queen worked on it?
me: No.
HR: Has anyone in Queen ever listened to it?
me: Doubtful.
HR: Who is it?
me: The Dead Milkmen
HR: Oh, THOSE guys. Yeah, it's not Queen, so it's all yours. Free. Gratis. Nada. Zilch. Who do we send it to?
Anyways, I now am in possession of the masters for Soul Rotation, Not Richard but Dick, and the If I Had A Gun EP. I'm going to be making a Deluxe edition release of NRBD later this year, just in time for Festivus, and it's going to include the full album on one disc, and the demos on the second disc, lovingly transferred from DAT.

I have sent emails to Hollywood records asking the same, no joke. Of course, they go unreplied.
If it was doable, we could just pool to buy the masters and give the rights back to the band.
I wonder if they'd even be interested in re-releasing them on their own or not if that was the case. |

No, but there will be limited edition 8-track, minidisc, DAT, and reel-to-reel editions. They will be most excellent.
The closest thing to vinyl that you'll get is the box of wax cylinders that comes with a box of trinkets. None of the wax cylinders will have the music from the album on them, but you'll be assisting me in clearing out my basement. _________________ The unofficial archivist. Just FYI,
8-10 years ago I did call and get in contact with Hollywood Records, a Disney product, and I spoke to a woman that sent me, on their dime, 2 copies of Not Richard, But Dick.
I think I traded some emails with her, I will look and see if I have her email address, mayhaps she is still there and still the nicest lady in the entire world and would consider forking over the masters? I highly doubt it, but maybe I could ask. _________________ Porn |

Can I just get them on rotating cylinder for my 1877 Edisson Phonograph? _________________ Nothing says job security like a rash of felony convictions. |

Well, as I said earlier:

So yeah. I can't promise that they'll contain ANY Dead Milkmen music whatsoever though. _________________ The unofficial archivist. Keep digitizing those old recordings everybody!
