Thanks - I didn't remember a Samuel St., Ave., Ct., Blvd... in Philly - or a Channel 2 for that matter.

If I fly to the Chicago show will you cover E.L.P.'s version of "Jerusalem?"

I dunno. Our current setup is starting to lean dangerously close to Prog Rock (which I was never really a fan of). Look at all of Joe's pedals (or Zuzu's Petals, for that matter) and just try not to think of Steve Howe. The day that Dean gets a gong and Dandrew starts to call himself "The Fish" is the day we need to some time off. Besides, we never tell anyone what covers we're going to do in advance. So far, I think In Boston worked out the best.

Hey Rodney, thanks for the info. I actually live in Dayton, Ohio. We had a decent scene at one time, but unfortunately a lot of the clubs that frequently had punk acts have shut down. If you know any bands that will be out this way, by all means let me know. I wouldn't mind if the Milkmen came around either Wink . Also, I'm not sure if you received it or not, but I sent a message to your email on this site telling you about a book called 'Lost City of Z.' I'm not sure if it's something that would interest you, but it's a non-fiction book based on the author's personal research and trip into the Amazon jungle looking for this potentially mythological, potentially real ancient civilization. It is a fascinating read and it is very enlightening. Check your email on this site if you haven't, there is a bit lengthier description I gave there. Thanks!

I didn't get you're email, but I did, indeed read Lost City of Z and loved it. Man, what a great read: missing explorers, vanished civilizations, insane plantation owners, and it was all true!

Haha that's great that you've read that. It was a fabulous book. I was also going to ask you if I could somehow get my hands on a tangible copy of your articles for the city paper. I can't access it online and I would love to have a copy or two just for keepsakes. I could send you money for shipping costs via paypal if you want. It's incredibly embarrassing to even state this, but my birthday is in a week and even someting as simple as reading an article that you wrote would make my day. If this is feasible at all, that would be awesome. Thanks Rodney.

Getting a hold of back-issues of the CP might be tough, but if you really need to read me in print, I've just been hired by Cowbell to write a monthly column. If you have a Barnes & Nobel in your town, you can get it there. That Wurster kid was on the cover of the last issue:

Oddly, that never occurred to me.

I was fortunate enough to hear some of the demos (and Dean's singing! bring that back!) and been digging the rough mixes for a while (I cheated but didn't steal nothin'), and hearing the final, mastered product has been nothing short of a treat, not to mention I'm finally figuring out the lyrics (where are they posted?! I can't find them).

Dean singing you say? I'm not sure how you got so lucky Marshall, but I should like to hear some of these demos and rough mixes, should the band ever decide to allow for it.

Haven't got any questions just yet, but I'm curious about an unanswered question posed a while back. Lettuce wanted to know if there were references like this in any of the older albums?

Also, I'd like to see a thread in the same vain as this but for all the other pre-tKiY songs, at least so I can finally figure out why the hell you'd want to set someone you love on fire.

The rough mixes are just that: songs on the album before it was properly mixed and mastered, the same stuff we're listening to on tKIY. The few demos I securely and briefly heard from maybe or maybe not a band member. I don't physically have them (nor would I risk sharing them if I did, lest I end up on the bad ending of a Duck Boat tour), but maybe one day they'll surface from one of those guys, like on Joe's BOTM. But I doubt he's running out of material any time soon.

Dean sings yes. He might argue that, I don't know. I wonder if and what backing vocals he might have done on this album? Dan sings quite well too apparently but I never see a mic in front of him. I guess it's not well suited to the live situation. All that jumping around on stage and instruments in the way and stuff.

Again, I'm sorry if I've fallen behind in the posts. It's been really difficult balancing work, the new release, and my porn addiction.

As links between songs on previous CD's, there is only one that I'm aware of. The narrator of Tiny Town and the narrator of Stuart are both Billy Bob, hence the "...my oldest boy, Bill Jr." line.

Oh, and the reason for setting someone you love on fire, is because Sting once had a song called "If You Love Someone Set Them Free" which was not only pretty bad (although it may have been better than the stuff I was listening to at the time. These sorts of things are subjective) but was constantly on the radio and TV. I think it took me longer to program the main keyboard sound (called "Joe", btw) than it took me to write the basics of the song.

Sting, where is thy death?

As for the demos, I have tons of 'em, but I'm not sure you'd really want to hear them. Caitlin Childs (my favorite new song), for example, started out as a song called Unintelligible at Any Speed and featured an accordion sound. It should've been called Unlistenable at Any Speed. I think I have a live recording of everybody busting up laughing when I first started playing the Theremin on Hangman. Actually, that's how much of our "stuff" comes about. Someone is goofing around and the other guys say "I like that; let's keep it."

HEY! I have a question.

Has anybody ever heard the rustling of Rodney's lyric sheet (I am presuming) in "Instant Club Hit" ?

I was completely unaware that "Instant Club Hit" was on The King in Yellow.

And that's okay. We're deviating from the topic. Essentially you went in to the studio in two weekend sessions and recorded live, but what takes were kept? (were bass/guitar/vocals re-cut after basics were tracked or are they pretty much live performances?) If you'd divulge such details. Different approaches to the recording process always fascinate me, although I do none of it myself.
