Well, GKB, if they don't release it on vinyl.. I still know where you can get a single album turned into vinyl. I never mentioned the site by name, because I didn't want to eliminate that place as an option through forum boasting.

Rodney, I love you as a singer and songwriter.. however, as a person, you remind me of this guy Ed that I know. He gets the most irrational ideas into his head and refuses to budge on any subject that he has ruled on. He is always willing to have an argument, but never yields one inch to a compromise. (Strangely enough.. you also look and sound like him. You really might have an illegitimate brother here in Tennessee.)

---

If the album doesn't come out on CD, I won't buy it. I'm perfectly happy being a vile little pirate. (Honestly, you'd shit if you knew how many tens of thousands of dollars of swag I've looted from the coffers of the internet.) I don't buy anything that is just a series of ones and zeroes. I would never invest money, no matter how much I love a band, for MP3's of an album that I will never hold in my hands.

I don't see what the big deal is. The DM can release the album in physical form, including CD and vinyl, and make thousands of fans happy.. or they can put the MP3's into the I-store and piss everyone off. I'm not in the band, so I can't force you to make your fans happy. I just "assume" that since this is such a down to Earth band, who have been loved and supported by countless hardcore fans for years, that it would be in their best interest to release their art on the formats that their fans want.

the most common solution to the digital crux is a download card inserted into your record with a 1 time use only password. any vinyl plant will set this up for little $ and it let's you have a record and digital copy.

And with this being a Dead Milkmen forum, that should be followed with:

"Ha, ha, ha, ha!

*cues 'The Fez'*"

I love vinyl. I admit it. I like the way a record smells and looks, the labels, the grooves. I like to see it spinning on the turntable.

Vinyl on the other hand is not so portable as tapes, CDs or mp3s.
Vinyl is better enjoyed in a setting like a den or family room that has a nice stereo system, a solid flooring, maybe some bean bags... an area in the home specifically set aside for this sort of entertainment... or in a bedroom perhaps, but not in a car. And I certainly wouldn't try taking my turntable out jogging, for heaven sakes. (I don't go out jogging, for one thing.)

However, it is still very difficult for someone to create an individual vinyl copy of an album. And that might be what makes vinyl so attractive to folks. That plus the hipster factor.

This is why I LOVE vinyl...it becomes an experience...i PAY ATTENTION to the music cause I have decided to pick it up, take it out of the package, see the LARGE artwork...read liner notes...it makes a very tangible product. Green or not. I also refuse to pay for MP3s because I will not pay for a product that is simply 1's and 0's on a computer. I will buy a cd for liner notes, artwork, playing in a car, and the better sound quality.

Many mp3s are played as background noise over shitty computer speakers, so in that case vinyl is WAY better sound than Mp3s...unless you are playing the 320kbs mp3s over some kind of stereo system with an awesome expensive set up.

Is this not being released on reel-to-reel?

DAMMIT! Not even one mention of it. Well, I guess I'll just steal it then.

If I get a deck to replace my burned up Sony Quad Reel deck, I can totally make that happen. lol

My reason for wanting vinyl is selfish, but here's the deal. This f'n band ruined my life! Well, maybe not that, but they got a kid that was way too young to diving into the "Alternative" stacks at the music store in the mall buying things like Mojo Nixon, SST artists, and whatever looked interesting. I bought the Smokin' EP when I was in 3rd grade because I had heard 'Bitchin' Camero' on the radio on the way to school one day. Immediatly, my Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, and Def Lepard tapes were a thing of the past. I wrote the Dead Milkmen a letter in friggin' crayon and got a crumy newsletter every month in return (which as a pre-teen was the highlight of my month). I still have an original copy of Now We Are 10 (just like everybody else who probably takes the time to post on the Dead Milkmen page) and have bought everything since.
But here's the thing, I'm 30 years old now, my wife will be giving birth to our second child soon and I've outgrown the convience of CDS. At night, I like to go into the basement, check things on the net, do my ironing for the next day and listen to records. It's what I like to do, I don't give a two cents about the sound quality vs digital. I just like listening to records.
However, I would state the best arguement aganist putting out vinyl is if the DM recorded the album on ProTools or some other digital recording system, the sound wouldn't be benifited by a vinyl release...However, I do think Rodney is vastly overstating the current popularity of the vinyl medium. I have friends here in KC with a basement full of CDS for all 5 of their albums and no vinyl copies to even give to longtime friends. Unless of course that friend wants to shell out $50 on eBay to score a copy. I really don't even understand the reason in releasing a CD if a digital copy is made available.
