I'm not sure if you cats read but if you do i would like to here some nice novels to read.
I have lost almost all faith in humanity when i was selling the lord of the rings books at a garage sale. Some broad asked me how much for the tapes, I replied and said those are books. She then laughed and said ha well i dont have time for that. The movies are like three hours long each people fucking suck.
I have been reading a bunch of vonnegut lately and i enjoyed slapstick a lot. I really think he hates the chinese. _________________ When in doubt fuck it. When not in doubt, get in doubt. |

I've read just about everything by Vonnegut. Love that guy.
I'm currently working on Idoru by William Gibson. It's no Neuromancer, but it's pretty good. _________________ "I am an asexual pug " - Lamp |

I don't read all that much, but when I do read, I go for old foreign litterature. I really like Gogol, Kafka, Romain Gary and Boris Vian. I suggest :
The Nose (by Gogol)
La vie devant soi (Life Before Us) by Romain Gary (under the name Emil Ajar)
L'Écume des jours (Fog of the Days) by Boris Vian.
Those three are my all time favourite books. _________________ Ich bin der Musikant mit Taschenrechner in der Hand. |

I've always got a book on the go, I wouldn't know what to do if i didn't have something to read, in desperate moments I've even picked up the bottles in the shower and read the back of them cause i need to read something, Im not that interested in fiction, with the exception of sci fi, I don't know if my weekly subscription to AD2000 counts here as its esentially a comic book,
Mostly I prefer psycology, and have gotten through most of the classic's, advoiding the "Self help" Genre, RD Langs my kinda guy, his work on schizophrenia "The Divided Self" is the law.
Phillip k Dick rules for sci fi,When ever I see his name on a spine I know Im going to like it, aside from that I do go for a lot of the American writers of the depression, Parker, ring lardiner, James Thurber,Fine exponants of the art of the short story.
Naturally i also have to include anything on photography will get read by me, never know if i might pick up a trick I've missed.
Probably the only book I return to and reread regularly is Quentin Crisps "The Naked Civil Servant" it has a lot of profound truths in it about the human race, I'd recomend it . |

My friend through some burroughs books at me and i don't like them much at all. I think it is just dumbed down vonnegut . I read crash lately by jg ballard and its all right because of the point he is getting across but i don't really feel the need to read about gratuitus sex and voilence. When i live a life such as myown and whatnot. I also read the long dark teatime of the soul by douglas adams my friends mom actually reccommended it to me. Douglas adams wrote the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy so i figured it would suck but it was pretty good there are quite a few humorous subtlties. One of the characters is Thor and he carries a soda machine around with him. _________________ When in doubt fuck it. When not in doubt, get in doubt. |

Are you basing this on the movie? If so, you suck. The books are great. |

You Vonnegut fans seen the film Mother Night? It's excellent. I'd rank it up there with Shawshank Redemption.
But back on the topics of books, the Hitchiker's Guide was the first series I read the whole way through. Fun stuff. Hated the movie.
I'm also addicted to Harry Potter. |

Currently: Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson (excellent)
Previously: Maze of Death by Philip K. Dick (odd with a twist - recommended)
ongoing -- non-fiction: Knoppix Hacks by Kyle Rankin (from the highly esteemed O'Reilly series - highly recommended if you want to try Linux without installing it on your hard drive. Knoppix is one of the best, if not the...)
Has anyone read the new Vonnegut book yet? |

When it came out I looked around for it for weeks, but no one had it, even though their computers said they did. I've pretty much given up for now, but I'll try again eventually. |

the H2G2 movie is really only good for spotting cameos and jokes based on the
BBC mini series. Erstwise it bit ass. Howsomever the books friggin rule. Not
just good stories, which they are, but great writing. The man can turn a phrase
better than any modern author. Sometimes I just go back and read passages 4
and 5 times to savor the words. Good stuff. I was very fortunate back in the day
to attend a reading by Douglas Adams- man he was great. He also signed my
"More Than Complete Hitchikers Guide" and (the newly released, at the time)
"Mostly Harmless". They are some of my more treasured posessions. Like, if the
house was on fire, after I got the wife and kid out, I'd go back in, grab the photo
albums and those books.
I'm a big fan of everything he's written, and the Dirk Gently novels are great,
but you have to check out "Last Chance to See", his non-fiction book. Fantastic
stuff about going on photo safari for endangered species. Amazingly good.
And, um, I confess... I dig the Potter books, too. I'm really excited to see the new
movie, the trailer looks great... So now that's out in the open....
Books I have recently read:
The Politically Incorrect Guide to History (I forget the author's name. A little
dry, but very interesting)
Black Rednecks and White Liberals (Thomas Sowell- again, very interesting. I
haven't finished it yet, but good so far. And VERY well researched. By page 43
he's already had like 260 footnotes.)
How to Make Love Like a Pornstar (Jenna Jameson- better than I expected)
Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way (Bruce Campbell- not nearly as good as If
Chins Could Kill, but an entertaining read)
Sock (Penn Jillette- friggin awesome. The style starts to get irritating after a
while, but is then broken up by short stories by the villan that ease the stylistic
annoyances.)
Journalistic Fraud: How The New York Times Distorts the News and Why It
Can No Longer Be Trusted (Bob Kohn- really good book, though a bit
redundant- the man just keeps hammering the same points OVER AND OVER
for the first 4 chapters or so before he gets to the meat of the argument- even if
you don't agree with his politics [which I largely don't] his facts are right on.)
And, um, the last Harry potter book. OK, after I read it, I went back and read 4,
5, and 6 again. I'm a dork. But I have some good theories if anyone wants to
hear 'em.)
And one of my all time favorite books... Whenever I find myself unexpectedly
taking a train or bus somewhere, and don't have anything to read, I go to the
bookstore at the terminal (fortunately there are still almost always bookstores at
bus and train terminals) and look for something to read. Ususally I'll bypass the
latest issue of Maxim or FHM (usually, I said) and try to find a good book.
Frequently though, the books are crap. So I'd estimate that at least 9 times in
my life I've gone into a train station bookstore and come out with a new copy of
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Man what a great book. If you're not
real good with language, it probably won't hold your interest, but I feel the same
way about this book as I do about Douglas Adams' works- gorgeous use of
language. Worth reading for the prose alone, and then a great story thrown in as
an added bonus.
When I was a youngster I read the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny and
really liked them, and can't wait till my kid is old enough to read them, but I
can't swear that they'd hold up to an adult re-reading of them. I'll give it a try
sometime, though.
Oh, and Kurt Vonnegut.
He's the man. Nuff said. _________________ Let Stand No Dance Leg Quiet. |

Clockwork Orange, Fantstic book, recently they broadcast the film on national tv, and it was one of those occasions that I found the film really caught the Idear behind the book.
Douglas adams, his writing rules, the latest HG film is terrible. |

I refuse to see it. I loved the Dirk Gently books even more than Hitch-hikers. _________________ It's alive! (nearly)
